I am the proud SAHM to two vivacious little girls, ages 4 and 2. Shortly after we came home from the hospital with our first daughter in 2006, my husband and I found each other constantly asking, "When did we feed her? I can't remember!" We started writing feeding times and when she had wet and dirty diapers down on random pieces of paper. Then our daughter was diagnosed with reflux and needed medicine twice a day. With sleep deprivation in full effect, I was also having a hard time remembering if and when I had given her the medicine. I thought, "There has to be a book out there I can buy to keep track of all this newborn stuff!"
I did some research on the internet and only found a couple of newborn journals. One had pre-filled lines like a day planner that ended at 7:00 p.m.! Well, that just made me laugh at loud. When my husband asked me why I was laughing I exclaimed, "I can't believe no one makes a book designed to keep track of the newborn info like feedings and diapers and medications and all the other stuff I need to remember!" My husband said, "Well, if no one does, why don't you?" So, after I got newborn life a little more under control, I set out to make a book that would help new, sleep-deprived moms.
I knew the most important detail for the book I could create would be blank, table-style lines instead of pre-labeled lines so moms could write in the times themselves. This would make the book more compact and easier to view, instead of each day being on a separate page. I also wanted it to be small enough to easily fit inside a diaper bag, and have a hand-crafted, boutique-like look...the perfect combination of functionality and cute! After several revisions, I have arrived at the current book. I hand-make each cover, and assemble and bind each book myself.
